Commissioner reviews smog, environmental protection efforts

SARGODHA, Oct 16 (APP): Chairmanship of Commissioner Jahanzeb Awan on Thursday presided over a meeting of the Divisional Smog and Environmental Committee to review the ongoing efforts to combat smog, including strict action against factories, brick kilns, and crop burning.
According to the official spokesperson here, the meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners from four districts, representatives from various departments, including Environment Protection Agency, Forest Department, Traffic Police, Agriculture Department, and others.
During the meeting the Regional Transport Authority reported that a campaign against smoke-emitting vehicles has been intensified, with several vehicles impounded and hundreds fined. The Agriculture Department briefed the meeting on awareness campaigns for farmers to prevent crop burning.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner directed all departments to adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards smog-causing activities. He instructed that smog control rooms be activated and inter-district coordination be improved.
The committee emphasized the need to raise public awareness about the harmful effects of air pollution and preventive measures. The Commissioner also directed all departments to submit daily reports on their efforts to combat smog, ensuring effective monitoring and timely action.
The meeting highlighted the importance of inter-agency coordination in addressing environmental issues.
