Commissioner reviews progress on development projects in Rahim Yar Khan

RAHIM YAR KHAN, Nov 05 (APP):Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Musarat Jabeen visited Rahim Yar Khan District Headquarters and presided over a high-level meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Committee Room.
During the visit, she reviewed the progress of the under-construction DC Office building, the foundation of the Assistant Commissioner Complex, and other ongoing development projects. The Commissioner expressed satisfaction over the district’s overall administrative and developmental performance. Deputy Commissioner Rahim Yar Khan Zaheer Anwar Jappa, along with District Police Officer Irfan Ali Samo, briefed the Commissioner on law and order, administrative affairs, public welfare initiatives of the Punjab Government, ongoing development projects, and overall departmental performance.
Addressing the meeting, Commissioner Musarat Jabeen emphasized that the district administration must maintain law and order and promote religious harmony through close coordination with religious scholars. She warned that no group or individual would be allowed to challenge the writ of the state. The Commissioner further directed full compliance with government guidelines on proscribed organizations and the relocation of illegal Afghan residents. She said that under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the government is committed to public welfare and improving citizens’ quality of life. She stressed that all departments must fulfill their responsibilities with dedication and accountability. The Commissioner instructed the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioners to increase visits to educational institutions and health centers to ensure 100% staff attendance and the provision of quality public services.
Musarat Jabeen also directed strict monitoring of all entry and exit points of the district to prevent smuggling and ensure effective law enforcement. She ordered consultations with traders and the public before conducting anti-encroachment operations to make markets spacious and accessible. She further stressed the need to improve the performance of WASA, ensure basic municipal services, and continue the “Suthra Punjab” cleanliness campaign effectively. The Commissioner noted that performance under this campaign is satisfactory in most tehsils except Liaqatpur, where further improvement is required. She instructed timely repair and activation of existing water filtration plants, identification of new sites, and strict action against smog violations. She also directed the Agriculture Department to stay active in achieving 100% wheat cultivation targets and maintain strong coordination with farmers.
Regarding the upcoming sugarcane crushing season, Musarat Jabeen directed the preparation of a comprehensive traffic management plan and strict monitoring of payments and deductions to protect farmers’ interests. She also emphasized cleanliness and provision of basic facilities at bus stands. The Commissioner directed Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, and Price Control Magistrates to ensure the availability of essential commodities at official prices, display rate lists, and monitor auctions in markets. She underscored the need to keep the prices of sugar, flour, and essential vegetables stable.
Under the Chief Minister Punjab’s Beautification Program, she instructed that city entrances, exits, and major roads be beautified to enhance the overall urban environment. She also directed Revenue Officers to remain proactive in achieving 100 percent government dues recovery targets and law enforcement agencies to launch a comprehensive crackdown against illegal LPG refilling operations.
During the briefing, Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar Jappa informed that 73 illegal Afghan residents have been deported so far, and social media accounts of banned organizations are under strict surveillance, with handlers being brought under the law. He added that district and tehsil-level meetings with Peace Committee members have been held to promote religious harmony and peace. Religious scholars and representatives of Ahl-e-Sunnat have expressed full support for government measures and issued a joint declaration disassociating themselves from banned outfits. The Deputy Commissioner also informed that, as per the Chief Minister’s directives, a Master Plan for the city’s beautification has been finalized. The plan includes redesigning and beautifying parks, roads, intersections, canals, and public spaces. Furthermore, departments have been mobilized for anti-smog actions, Assistant Commissioners tasked with field monitoring, and efforts are ongoing to meet wheat cultivation targets and ensure close oversight of the sugarcane crushing season.
