SARGODHA, Dec 15 (APP): Commissioner Sargodha Jahanzaib Awan on Monday presided over a meeting to assess progress on targets assigned to various government departments and to finalize the future course of action regarding city beautification, encroachment removal, sanitation and food safety.
According to the spokesperson for the Commissioner’s office here, the meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Captain (R) Muhammad Waseem, Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Managing Director Muhammad Arshad, Director Development Bilal Hassan, CEO SWMC Rana Shahid Imran, COO Municipal Corporation Majid Bin Ahmed, along with officers from WASA, Food Authority, FESCO and other relevant departments.
During the briefing, XEN FESCO Mazhar Iqbal Malik informed the meeting that under the Chief Minister Punjab’s special City Beautification Plan, all prominent electricity installations on City Road are being shifted underground in phases to enhance public safety.
He said efforts are underway to complete the work within the stipulated timeline.
The Commissioner directed that safety measures must be ensured at all stages.
Officials of the Punjab Food Authority reported that during the current month, 2,848 food points across the district were inspected, 978 notices were issued, while 129 outlets were penalized, imposing fines amounting to Rs 2.708 million.
The Commissioner directed the Food Authority to deploy special inspection teams at public parks and recreational spots during Christmas festivities to ensure strict compliance with hygiene standards at shops, outlets and temporary stalls.
The COO Municipal Corporation presented a weekly progress report on sanitation, encroachment removal and civic facilities.
The Commissioner directed that the public toilet on Khushab Road be made fully functional in a neat and clean condition within two days, while a monument and planters should also be installed on Azad Road.
The meeting was informed that cattle sheds have been removed from various areas, including Service Colony, and livestock has been completely evacuated from municipal limits.
The Commissioner directed WASA and SWMC to conduct joint field visits to ensure that no illegal cattle sheds or livestock reappear.
The Commissioner also ordered a fresh review of bus stops being constructed for the Green Bus project, directing departments to incorporate feedback from drivers and passengers, conduct site visits and introduce further improvements.
Briefing the meeting, Deputy MD WASA stated that practical work is underway on the Rs 14 billion sewerage project under the Chief Minister Punjab’s special Sargodha package.
Concluding the meeting, Commissioner Jahanzaib Awan directed all departments to ensure that the impact of field actions is clearly visible and that citizens experience tangible improvements in their daily lives.
He reiterated that, in line with the Punjab government’s vision, there will be no compromise on civic amenities, cleanliness, beautification and discipline.
