Commissioner Rawalpindi chairs meeting to review relief operations, damages caused by rains & landslides

RAWALPINDI, Jul 23 (APP):Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Amir Khattak on Wednesday chaired a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner Office Murree to review the steps taken by the relevant district relief departments, the damage caused by landslides due to heavy rains, and rehabilitation of the victims and their transfer to a safe place.
A detailed review of the relief operations, provided in the affected areas, including the immediate implementation of the action plan by the Commissioner Rawalpindi, was also taken.
Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Shirazi and other administrative officers attended the meeting.
Commissioner Khattak directed to immediately repair the roads affected by landslides and rains.
It was the top priority of the government’s to provide complete protection, immediate relief and financial assistance in a transparent manner to the flash flood  affected families, he added.
Commissioner Khattak asked the officers to visit the affected to personally assess the situation and distribute relief cheques to the affected people within 24 hours.
The meeting was informed that 85 mm of rain was recorded in Rawalpindi city last night, which had increased the risk of water accumulation in urban areas and flooding in drains. However, the workforce of Water and Sanitation Agency, Rawalpindi Waste Management Company and other departments concerned remained present in the field, which kept all areas safe from possible flooding.
It was told that the committees regarding flood relief cheques distribution in Attock and Chakwal had completed their work and sent the reports in that regard to the relevant authorities.
The commissioner issued clear instructions that Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue, deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners should ensure the distribution of flood relief cheques in their respective districts on merit so that no deserving citizen was deprived of assistance.
