LAHORE, Dec 30 (APP): Commissioner Lahore Division Marryam Khan has directed the district administration to ensure strict, across-the-board implementation of the Kite Flying Ordinance 2025 in connection with the three-day “Safe Basant” festival, scheduled to be observed within the limits of Lahore district from February 6 to 8, 2026.
Presiding over a meeting on “Safe Basant,” here on Tuesday, the Commissioner categorically announced that kite flying will not be allowed in Lahore before February 6, 2026, while the sale of kites and kite strings will only be permitted from February 1 to February 8. She warned that any violation of the ordinance would invite strict legal action, with zero tolerance for negligence.
Marryam Khan added that under the Kite Flying Ordinance 2025, no motorcycle without approved safety wires or rods will be allowed on Lahore roads during the three-day festival. She added that kite flying material manufacturing will only be permitted within Lahore district, while administrations of adjoining districts have been directed to launch crackdowns against illegal manufacturing and kite flying activities in their respective areas.
The Commissioner instructed all Assistant Commissioners to immediately initiate enforcement drives and ensure complete compliance with the ordinance and the district administration’s notifications. She also directed nearby districts to strengthen coordination and intensify action against kite flying to prevent spillover violations.
During the meeting, Commissioner Marryam Khan informed that online registration of kite manufacturers, traders, and sellers has been launched through the e-Biz application, and only registered entities will be allowed to operate. She clarified that manufacturing and trade of approved kite sizes and permitted string types will only be allowed until February 8, 2026. All registered manufacturers, traders, and sellers have been directed to prominently display their registration certificates at their business premises.
Emphasizing public safety, the Commissioner said that human life protection is the top priority, and no compromise would be made under the guise of cultural celebrations. She added that all departments would work in close coordination with the district administration and police to ensure a peaceful and safe Basant. She also urged citizens to play their due role in making “Safe Basant” a success.
The meeting was attended by DIG Operations Lahore, CTO Lahore, Deputy Commissioner Lahore, Director Development Lahore, all Assistant Commissioners, and other relevant officers.
