Commissioner Karachi bans display of arms, aerial firing & pillion riding

KARACHI, Dec 31 (APP): Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, on Wednesday through a notification imposed a complete ban under the Section 144, on the carrying/display of arms, aerial firing and pillion riding on motorcycles/scooters, within the local limits of Karachi Division for two days, i.e from December 31, 2025 to January 01, 2026, on the occasion of New Year Eve 2026.
According to the notification, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Karachi’s South Zone, has informed that on the eve of New Year 2026, a large number of youngsters from different areas of Karachi are likely to gather at Sea View on motorcycles and cars to celebrate the new year 2026 and such gatherings may cause traffic congestion and inconvenience to local residents.
It has been further observed that on New Year’s Eve, some individuals indulge in aerial firing, which may lead to untoward incidents or loss of human lives.
The DIGP South Zone called for a ban under Section 144 Cr. P.C. on the carrying/display of arms, aerial firing, use of firecrackers, and pillion riding on motorcycle scooters, to safeguard the lives of citizens.
The Commissioner Karachi’s notification said that the use of firecrackers is strictly prohibited, except at designated and permitted places notified by the competent authority.
The ban on pillion riding will not apply to women, children below the age of 12 years, senior citizens, journalists, personnel of law enforcement agencies/ security agencies of registered private companies in uniform during their duty hours and employees of the essential services.
The Station House Officers (SHOs) of concerned police stations are authorized to register the complaints under Section 188 PCC in writing for the violation of the ban imposed under Section 144 Cr.PC.
