BAHAWALPUR, Jul 30 (APP):Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Musarrat Jabeen issued a stern warning to the district administration to take effective measures against artificial inflation of sugar prices, profiteering, and hoarding.
She stated that the sale of sugar must strictly conform to the rates fixed by the Government of Punjab under all circumstances. In a sudden inspection, Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen visited Ashraf Sugar Mills to assess the implementation of official sugar rates.
The inspection was attended by Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Dr. Farhan Farooq, Assistant Commissioner Saddar, officials from the Food Department, and representatives from the sugar mill administration. The government has set the ex-mill price of sugar at Rs 165 per kilogram, while the retail rate has been fixed at Rs 173 per kilogram.
During the visit, Commissioner Jabeen directed the sugar mill management to ensure an uninterrupted supply and transparent distribution of sugar so that consumers could be provided relief from inflated prices. She strictly instructed shopkeepers and merchants to prominently display the official price lists in all shops and warned that strict action would be taken against those selling sugar at prices higher than the set limits.
Furthermore, the Commissioner highlighted that, on the direction of the Punjab government, price control magistrates are conducting daily market inspections. Immediate action is being taken against those involved in profiteering and hoarding based on complaints received.
Earlier, along with the Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner Jabeen also visited Ghall Mandi Bahawalpur to issue directives to wholesalers to ensure that sugar is supplied at the official rates, preventing any disruptions and ensuring fair pricing for consumers.
