ABBOTTABAD, Oct 29 (APP):Commissioner Hazara, Syed Fayaz Ali Shah Wednesday held a detailed meeting with a delegation from Kohistan regarding the ongoing Dasu Dam project.
The delegation was led by Chairman of the Dasu Dam Committee, Syed Gul Badshah, and Tehsil Chairman Harban-Basha, Asadullah Qureshi. The meeting was aimed at addressing public concerns, compensation issues, and community development matters linked to the mega hydropower project.
During the meeting, the delegation highlighted several long-standing grievances of the local communities affected by the construction of the Dasu Dam. These included delays in the payment of compensation for acquired land, resettlement challenges, provision of employment opportunities for local residents, and completion of infrastructure projects promised under the dam’s social responsibility plan.
The Commissioner Hazara listened carefully to the delegation’s concerns and assured them that all legitimate issues would be resolved through coordination with the relevant authorities. He stated that the district and divisional administrations were already in contact with WAPDA officials and would convey the community’s concerns to the higher management for swift action.
The Commissioner further mentioned that previous efforts had been made to streamline compensation distribution and to ensure that the affected families were provided relief in accordance with government commitments. He reaffirmed that the administration remains committed to protecting the rights of the local population while ensuring that national development projects like the Dasu Dam progress smoothly.
The Dasu Hydropower Project, one of Pakistan’s key energy initiatives, aims to generate over 4,000 megawatts of electricity upon completion. However, the project has faced periodic delays due to land disputes, compensation issues, and community grievances. The latest meeting between the Kohistan delegation and the Commissioner is part of ongoing efforts to build consensus and maintain trust between the local communities and project authorities.
Commissioner Syed Fayaz Ali Shah emphasized that the concerns of the people of Kohistan would be handled with transparency and fairness, ensuring that development and community welfare move forward hand in hand.
