Commissioner for strict action over hygiene lapses during Ramazan inspections

KOHAT, Feb 19 (APP): Commissioner Kohat Division Syed Motasim Billah Shah on Thursday conducted surprise pre-dawn inspections of a government slaughterhouse and major fruit and vegetable markets on the first day of Ramazan, uncovering serious violations of hygiene, sanitation, and food safety standards.
During his visit to the municipal slaughterhouse, the Commissioner expressed strong displeasure over poor cleanliness, inadequate drainage arrangements, and the use of contaminated water.
Syed Motasim Billah Shah ordered immediate legal action against the responsible staff and directed authorities to initiate an inquiry into reports of underage animals being slaughtered, instructing officials to thoroughly examine the relevant records.
He  also took notice of butchers operating without protective clothing, gloves, and headgear. He directed the local government and livestock departments to strictly enforce health and safety regulations to prevent further violations.
Later, during inspections of fruit and vegetable markets, the absence of concerned departmental representatives prompted the Commissioner to order an inquiry to fix responsibility. He also reviewed official price lists and assessed overall sanitation conditions in the markets.
Directing all Deputy Commissioners across the Kohat Division to remain present in the field during early morning hours throughout Ramazan, he stressed the need for close monitoring of markets and slaughterhouses to ensure the supply of clean, safe, and quality food items.
He also urged citizens to cooperate with authorities in maintaining hygiene standards during the holy month.
