Commissioner directs expediting of Indus Highway work, crackdown on illegal mining
PESHAWAR, Sep 10 (APP):Commissioner Kohat Division, Syed Moatasim Billah Shah, on Thursday directed the authorities to accelerate work on the Indus Highway, maintain construction quality, curb overloading, and intensify action against illegal gold mining.
He issued the directives at a review meeting attended by commissioners and DIGs of Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan divisions, deputy commissioners, district police officers, National Highway Authority (NHA) officials and project consultants.
The NHA officials briefed the meeting on the progress of ongoing construction and traffic management measures. Participants expressed concern over the slow pace of work and called for expediting construction while maintaining quality standards.
The commissioner said the Indus Highway was an important commercial and travel route and directed the authorities to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety during construction.
He also ordered strict action against overloaded vehicles and better coordination among police, district administrations and the NHA.
In a separate meeting, Shah reviewed the situation regarding illegal gold mining in the division and directed the relevant departments to intensify action against those involved.
He said mineral resources were national and provincial assets, while illegal extraction not only caused revenue losses to the government but also damaged the environment.
The district administrations, police and Minerals, Forests and Industries departments were directed to adopt a coordinated strategy, respond promptly to reports of illegal mining and take indiscriminate legal action against violators.
