RAWALPINDI, Feb 13 (APP): Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Aamir Khattak and City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani on Friday chaired an important meeting at the Police Lines Headquarters to review measures for maintaining law and order and promoting inter-sect harmony in the city.
Assistant commissioners of Rawalpindi, Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations), divisional SPs, SP Security, DSP Headquarters and other officers attended the meeting. Members of the divisional and district peace committees, traders’ representatives, caretakers of imambargahs and mosque administrators also participated.
The meeting emphasised close coordination of police officers with the administrations of mosques, imambargahs and other religious buildings to ensure effective security arrangements.
It agreed to maintain strict vigilance on visitors arriving from outside the city and to ensure proper registration of regular attendees at religious gatherings.
The commissioner warned of strict legal action against elements involved in extremism and hate speech, adding that names of individuals found involved in hate activities would be included in the Fourth Schedule.
It was decided to install Safe City cameras at entry and exit points of the city, mosques and other important buildings. Directions were also issued for registration of volunteers and for facilitating the issuance of arms licences and training to relevant administrations where required.
Citizens were urged to promptly inform the police about any suspicious activity, while authorities were directed to maintain a complete record of passengers entering and leaving the city.
The commissioner declared tenants’ registration mandatory and warned of action in case of violations, adding that registration of all houses and shops under the Tenancy Act was being completed.
It was further decided to start video recording and registration of passengers at all interprovincial and inter-district bus terminals to ensure public safety.
The meeting stressed mutual cooperation among the administration, police and citizens to maintain peace in Rawalpindi.
CPO Hamdani said effective and foolproof security arrangements would be ensured for mosques and imambargahs, with monitoring through CCTV cameras and enhanced checking at main entry points. He also directed mosque and imambargah administrations to deploy trained guards alongside police personnel and to ensure security duty at rooftops and vantage points.
The CPO added that volunteers performing duties during the holy month of Ramazan would be provided proper training to support security arrangements.
