Commissioner briefs officers on disaster management, monsoon preparedness

LAHORE, Jul 29 (APP):A detailed briefing session was held on Tuesday at the Commissioner Office Lahore for officers participating in the 38th Senior Management Course (SMC).
The session was chaired by Commissioner Lahore Division Zaid Bin Maqsood, who welcomed the participants and provided insights into disaster management strategies, war action plans, and monsoon arrangements across the division.
The session featured comprehensive briefings from district administrations and various departments. Senior Management Course officers were briefed on climate change initiatives, performance indicators, and current challenges. The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) presented an overview of its strategy, coordination mechanisms, and operational frameworks for disaster response.
Deputy Commissioners shared monsoon preparedness plans, including water drainage measures and evacuation strategies in the event of floods. Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood highlighted the Punjab government’s new programs for improved public service delivery and urban facilitation. He emphasized that Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif is personally reviewing district-level performance reports daily, especially in response to rainfall and crop damage. He underlined the importance of proactive planning, timely reporting, and swift operations to manage urban flooding and emergencies effectively.
Commissioner Lahore also stressed the need for strong coordination among the Met Office, PDMA, WASA, district administrations, and Rescue 1122 during the monsoon season.
At the conclusion of the session, Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood presented commemorative shields to senior SMC officers.
The session was attended by DC Lahore Syed Musa Raza, DC Nankana Rao Tasleem Akhtar, Additional Commissioner Usman Ghani, PDMA Director, Assistant Director Development Lahore Division, and other senior officials.
