FAISALABAD, Nov 10 (APP):Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar has imposed a ban on the dry-sweeping of roads in the division as part of ongoing anti-smog measures. A spokesperson for the Commissioner’s office announced on Monday that Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners across the division have been directed to ensure that water is sprinkled on roads before sweeping in order to prevent the spread of dust and dirt into the atmosphere.
The Commissioner emphasized that if dry sweeping is reported anywhere in the division, the concerned Incharge of the Faisalabad Waste Management Company (FWMC) will be held accountable.
During a meeting to review the implementation of anti-smog policies, the Commissioner urged the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) to enforce 100% adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at under-construction sites. He stated that action should be taken against any site where water is not being sprinkled, and warned that government and private under-construction sites should be sealed if they continue to violate the rules.
Raja Jahangir Anwar also highlighted the role of dust particles in worsening pollution and instructed that SOP violations should result in challans, notices, fines, and even the sealing of sites for continuous non-compliance.
The Commissioner further ordered strict action against those burning crop residues, calling for offenders to be jailed, while smoke-emitting vehicles should be impounded and their drivers fined heavily.
The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Coordination Amir Raza, Director Agriculture (Extension) Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood, Deputy Director Environment Usman Azhar, and other officials.
