LAHORE, Feb 02 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA), in collaboration with the Labour and Human Resources Department, has launched Phase-II of the School Meal Program from Worker Welfare Primary School, Nishtar, Lahore, with the objective of ensuring healthy and balanced nutrition for schoolchildren.
The program was inaugurated by Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resources Khawaja Muhammad Mansha Ullah Butt, along with Director General Punjab Food Authority Muhammad Asim Javaid.
Addressing the ceremony, the minister said that the good health of children today guarantees a brighter future for the nation. He termed the School Nutrition Program a pressing need of the time and a blessing for underprivileged children. He appreciated the efforts of DG PFA Muhammad Asim Javaid and his team for their commitment to safeguarding children’s health and well-being.
On the occasion, DG PFA Muhammad Asim Javaid said that a comprehensive policy focusing on food nutrition was essential to combat malnutrition. He said that under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab, quality and nutritious food was being provided to students through the pilot project. He emphasized that children suffering from malnutrition could never achieve their true potential, making timely intervention critical.
He said that under Phase-II of the program, nutritious meals will be provided to 14,100 students of 36 schools for a period of three months, including 30 government primary schools and six Worker Welfare schools. He added that awareness regarding balanced diets and healthy eating habits would be extended to 40 million students of public and private schools across Punjab.
The DG added that a proposal was under consideration to include 73 additional Labour Welfare schools in the program, while Nutrition Coordination Committees were being established in every participating school to ensure effective monitoring and implementation.
He said that the authority would continue to take all necessary measures to protect children from malnutrition and promote a healthy future generation. He appealed to parents, teachers, and the community to support the initiative for a healthier and brighter future for children.
