HYDERABAD, Jul 17 (APP):The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah conducted a detailed visit to various rain-affected areas of Hyderabad and directed the district administration to ensure immediate relief to the public.
Accompanied by provincial ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon and Jam Khan Shoro, Mayor Hyderabad Kashif Shoro, Commissioner Bilal Ahmed Memon and Deputy Commissioner Zainul Abideen Memon, the Chief Minister inspected the severely affected locations.
Syed Murad Ali Shah inspected Civil Lines, Thandi Sarak, Autobahn Road Pumping Station, Railway Underpass, Fatah Chowk, Makki Shah Road, Qazi Qayyum Road and low-lying areas of Qasimabad. He instructed the administration to ensure rapid drainage of stagnant rainwater from all low-lying areas and accelerate sanitation efforts.
During a briefing, the Deputy Commissioner Zainul Abideen Memon informed the CM that on July 14, heavy rainfall recorded 107mm in an hour, with 91mm in Latifabad and 55mm in Qasimabad. He added that 90 percent of the city’s areas had been cleared of rainwater within 24 hours.
The CM emphasized focused attention on Railway Underpass and other low-lying points, directing that all measures be taken to protect human lives. Expressing grief over a citizen’s death during the rain, he offered his condolences.
He further directed that work on under-construction roads be expedited and public service messages be displayed on city walls. He noted that some parts of the city still had standing water and ordered its immediate drainage.
Highlighting the low-lying nature of Hyderabad, the CM stated that the city’s drainage system was entirely dependent on pumping, as gravity-based flow was not feasible. He said HESCO was instructed to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during rain to keep pumping stations operational.
The Chief Minister also inspected development projects on Autobahn Road and Abdul Sattar Edhi Road. He issued orders to speed up the construction of the Abdul Sattar Edhi flyover and remove encroachments.
The works and service department was directed to build roads along both banks of the Pinyari Canal at a cost of Rs 2.2 billion. The road on the right bank will be 7.40 km long, while the left bank road will span 9.80 km. The CM termed the project vital for easing traffic and enhancing city aesthetics.
Later on, addressing a press conference in the mayor office, the chief minister Syed Murad Ali Shah recalled visiting Latifabad by boat in 2005 and said he remains familiar with all areas of the city. He noted that encroachments including eight-story buildings along Autobhan Road, had already been removed, and legal action would continue in other affected areas.
Referring to the revival of Niaz Stadium, the CM shared that discussions have been held with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, and hopefully, PSL matches will be held in Hyderabad next year. He added that matches of the Asian Championship, involving six international teams, will be hosted in Karachi and Hyderabad in September. The D Park will be inaugurated in August.
In the end of the press conference, the Chief Minister reaffirmed that Hyderabad, being the second largest city in Sindh, remains a top priority for the PPP government. He assured that despite limited resources, service delivery would not be compromised and all public interest projects would be completed transparently and on time.
