LAHORE, Mar 01 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in her message on World Civil Defence Day, emphasized that civil defence training equips citizens with the skills to voluntarily protect themselves during natural disasters and unforeseen emergencies.
She highlighted that civil defence also focuses on preventive measures to minimize risks from such calamities.
The chief minister noted that the civil defence organisation remains constantly active to assist the public, with its fundamental objective being the protection of citizens from earthquakes, floods, and other disasters, thereby ensuring a safe society. On the occasion, she paid tribute to personnel who render services during accidents and natural calamities.
CM Maryam Nawaz said World Civil Defence Day serves to raise public awareness about the crucial role of civil defence in safeguarding life and property.
She underlined that a strong civil defence system is vital not only during peacetime but also in emergencies, as it can significantly reduce the impact of disasters. She called for urgent efforts to revive and strengthen the institution, stressing that enhancing civil defence capabilities is the need of the hour.
