SUKKUR, Aug 31 (APP): Chief Minister (CM) Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, on Sunday addressed the media at Guddu Barrage, providing an update on the preparations for the potential super flood. He stated that the rivers Ravi and Trimmu are currently experiencing high water levels.
The CM emphasized that the Sindh administration is fully prepared to handle a super flood, which is expected to be around 900,000 cusecs. Although he hopes that the water level will not reach this point, the administration is taking all necessary precautions.
CM highlighted that the entire kacha area would be inundated in the event of a super flood, and the administration has made preparations to evacuate the entire area. He added that the government has detailed maps of the population, number of people, and livestock, which have been shared with the district administration and PDMA.
The Chief Minister thanked the Pakistan Navy for their assistance and mentioned that the Commander Coast is present with him. He also stated that he is in touch with the Pakistan Army and DG Rangers.
Murad emphasized that the primary focus is on saving human lives and livestock from the floodwaters. The district administration is preparing to evacuate people, and 192 boats from the Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Army have been deployed in the kacha areas.
The CM highlighted the importance of protecting the bunds from breaches, particularly on the right bank of the River Indus, where six sensitive points have been identified. He mentioned that the KK Bund is a high-risk area, and the Shahin Bund on the left bank is also vulnerable.
He noted that there is still time to prepare, as the floodwaters will take around five days to reach Sindh after passing through Trimmu. He requested the public and media to cooperate with the administration when the time comes.
CM Sindh assured that the administration is taking all necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of the potential super flood. He emphasized that saving human lives and protecting the bunds are the top priorities.
