LAHORE, Dec 10 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed that ongoing projects under the Punjab Development Programme (PDP) in 52 cities be completed by June 30, 2026.
She gave the instructions while chairing a special review meeting on the programme, where authorities presented a detailed progress report on the upgradation of streets, parks, sewerage, and drainage systems.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that the first phase of PDP will formally begin on December 19, 2025, with major projects worth Rs 166 billion already approved under the programme’s first-phase outlay of Rs 304 billion. 50 tenders have been floated, and ten finalized projects worth Rs 53.5 billion are set to commence shortly.
CM Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to prioritize construction and rehabilitation of severely deteriorated neighbourhoods and stressed the timely completion of drainage projects to mitigate urban flooding before the monsoon season. Officials said that under PDP, 3,497 km of sewerage lines will be laid, 181 km of drainage networks developed, 56 new disposal stations constructed, and 61 existing stations upgraded, increasing total water-handling capacity to 2,114 cusecs.
Phase-I of the programme covers 10 cities—Burewala, Khanewal, Lalamusa, Mailsi, Sillanwali, Vehari, Attock, Layyah, Alipur, and Jaranwala—where projects worth Rs 53 billion will begin immediately. Development will subsequently expand to 43 additional cities, executing projects in sewerage, drainage, parks, and street rehabilitation worth Rs 304 billion.
The CM said the programme will bring visible improvements in urban living standards and reaffirmed her government’s commitment to uniform development across all districts in Punjab.
