CM Maryam meets Turkish parliamentary delegation, discusses bilateral cooperation

LAHORE, Dec 01 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif met Burhan Kaya Turk, President of the EU Harmonization Committee and Member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, here on Monday.
She warmly welcomed the delegation and held comprehensive discussions on bilateral relations, economic cooperation, environmental issues, parliamentary affairs, and disaster management.
During the meeting, the CM expressed gratitude to the government and people of Turkiye for their timely assistance during recent devastating floods in Punjab and welcomed Turkish interest in Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones.
Both sides underscored the importance of strengthening parliamentary ties and enhancing cooperation in flood management, clean transport, forest protection, water conservation, and climate-smart infrastructure.
CM Maryam Nawaz described Burhan Kaya Turk’s visit as a symbol of enduring brotherhood, shared heritage, and mutual trust between Pakistan and Turkiye. She lauded Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s unwavering support for Pakistan and commended Turkiye’s principled stance on the Palestine issue. “From Kashmir to Gaza, there is no distance between the hearts and positions of Pakistan and Turkiye,” she remarked.
The CM highlighted opportunities for cooperation in climate legislation, local governance, digital exchange, and youth empowerment, and stressed joint efforts to raise bilateral trade to five billion dollars. Pakistan also proposed naming a Special Economic Zone as the President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Special Industrial Zone in honour of the Turkish President.
CM Maryam Nawaz briefed the delegation on Punjab’s initiatives at the COP-30 global conference and provincial programs such as the Punjab Clean Air Program, Suthra Punjab, AI Forest Protection Force, and Punjab Climate Observatory.
Burhan Kaya Turk appreciated the rapid construction of over 120,000 houses in Punjab within a few months and praised the Chief Minister’s pace of work, adding that the people of Turkiye hold deep admiration for Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
