CM Maryam inaugurated Rs.8.77 bn worth projects, announced new schemes for Pindi

RAWALPINDI, Jul 08 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday inaugurated the Nawaz Sharif Flyover on Adiala Road and the GPO Underpass on The Mall Rawalpindi. The Rs8.77 billion projects aim to ease the city’s chronic traffic congestion.
Speaking at the ceremony, Maryam commended the Communication and Works (C&W) Department.
 “I commend the C&W minister, Sohaib Bharth and its Secretary Sohail Ashraf for completing these projects in record time”, she said and added “Its almost miraculous how fast this work was done.”
She also thanked the Frontier Works Organization for their support.
“Nearly 79000 plus vehicles will use Nawaz Sharif Flyover daily, making them game-changers for Rawalpindi”, said the chief minister adding that more than 200,000 vehicles will pass through the GPO Underpass.
Maryam announced new initiatives to boost Punjab’s development. “We’re launching clean drinking water projects in South Punjab and Potohar with new pipelines,” she declared.
“Murree’s water supply issues will be fixed soon, and we’re preparing to upgrade Nullah Lai to prevent flooding.” She added.
The chief minister said that the government would start revamping the project of Nullah Lai.
She reaffirmed that the Rawalpindi Ring Road would be completed quickly.
She also announced the remodeling of Katchery Road and Mall Road with construction of new underpasses to further ease traffic flow.
The chief minister said that all Rawalpindi schools were being upgraded.
In the health sector, the CM highlighted that the government has  turned 1,250 health centers across Punjab into mini-hospitals in record time.
She further highlighted Punjab’s road infrastructure progress, saying, “We’ve built and repaired over 12,000 kilometers of roads in the past year, including 607 kilometers across 67 projects in Rawalpindi, with 51 already done, she said.
The chief minister said that by year-end, the government would complete 19,000 kilometers of roads in the province.
She emphasized the pace of development projects.
“People say it’s like Jinns built these roads, as projects pending for 30 years are now complete.”
In the sanitation sector, she said that the Clean Punjab programme was improving cleanliness across the province, especially noticeable at the Punjab-KP border near Murree.”
 Maryam also underlined Rawalpindi’s beautification efforts, saying, “I’m personally overseeing these projects to enhance the city’s look.”
Talking on recent Muharram arrangements in the city by the District Administration, she said that the public, especially the Shia community has praised government efforts, which lead to remarkable religious harmony this year.
Maryam stressed her focus on public welfare.
“All development projects are for the people’s convenience and remain my top priority”, she said adding that both the inaugurations are historic for Rawalpindi.
“I appreciate all institutions for their efforts in completing these projects”, she said.
Federal Railway Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, Federal Parliamentary Secretary Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry, PML-N Divisional President Malik Abrar Ahmed, Senator Nasir Butt, MPA Raja Hanif Advocate, MNA Tahira Aurangzeb, and MPA Ziaullah Shah and officials from various departments and the District Administration were also present during the inauguration ceremonies which took place separately on the project sites.
Upon being greeted by an enthusiastic crowd showering the flower, the chief minister waved back, responding to their chants.
The Punjab Government has already approved Rs.30.0 billion worth 13 new schemes for Rawalpindi which is a part of Rs.150.0 billion worth of overall development projects in Punjab Annual Development Programme (ADP) for Rawalpindi. The core of 13 news schemes include various underpasses to be considered at locations including Race Course Chowk, Charing Cross, Army Graveyard Chowk, COD Range Road, and flyovers including at Ammar Chowk, Jinnah Park and Kachehri Chowk. Punjab Government has also chalked out a plan to start revamping Chakri Road after the successful culmination of new schemes.
