LAHORE, Jul 14 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif formally launched Pakistan’s first Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) during a grand ceremony held at the Expo Center, here on Monday.
The authority is set to become fully operational in the Lahore Division next week and will be rolled out across the province by December.
As chief guest, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif inspected the PERA Force, its operational vehicles, motorbikes, weapons, protective gear, and modern equipment. She expressed special appreciation upon seeing female Senior District Enforcement Officers (SDEOs) as part of the force, noting their active role in this new initiative.
The CM also reviewed a 3D model of the PERA Station and personally experienced the complaint registration system by pressing a service button at the interactive kiosk. She inspected various sections of the Enforcement Station including the Control Room, Investigation Room, Arrest Room, Conference Hall, Waiting Area, and Barracks.
A smartly turned-out PERA contingent performed a formal march past, martial arts demonstration, and a mock drill on protest management, showcasing the operational readiness of the newly formed authority. CM Maryam also observed a live enforcement simulation and awarded certificates to four officers for outstanding performance during the training phase.
PERA Director General Captain (Retd.) Farrukh Atique presented a detailed briefing on the mission, objectives, and structure of the Authority. He thanked the Chief Minister for her unwavering support in establishing PERA and highlighted that after Lahore Division, the authority would be fully functional province-wide by the end of the year.
PERA has been mandated to take systematic and forceful actions against hoarding, profiteering, and illegal land grabbing throughout Punjab. It aims to restore public confidence, especially among vulnerable communities and investors, by ensuring fair enforcement and transparent accountability.
DG Farrukh Atique also stated that PERA will not only conduct operations but will also facilitate comprehensive investigations and effective prosecutions to ensure strict implementation of the law. With CM Maryam Nawaz’s approval, PERA will establish its own headquarters, field units, and training cells.
Members of the provincial cabinet, parliamentarians, secretaries, and senior government officials attended the launch ceremony, marking a historic step in Punjab’s law enforcement and regulatory evolution.
