QUETTA, Feb 21 (APP):Marking International Mother Language Day, Chief Minister (CM) Mir Sarfraz Bugti underscored the cultural, intellectual, and historical importance of mother language, describing it as the foundation of collective consciousness and historical continuity.
In his message issued on Saturday, Sarfraz Bugti emphasized that Balochistan’s linguistic diversity reflects the province’s intellectual breadth and cultural depth. He noted that the rich tapestry of regional languages represents a valuable heritage that must be preserved and promoted.
“Mother languages embody the identity, traditions, and worldview of communities,” Bugti said, adding that safeguarding this linguistic capital is a fundamental responsibility of the government. He highlighted that the provincial government is implementing a comprehensive strategy to promote teaching, research, and documentation of regional languages, ensuring their preservation for future generations while integrating them into modern educational frameworks.
The CM stressed the importance of connecting younger generations with their mother language, describing it as essential for strengthening identity and fostering intellectual confidence. “When young people are rooted in their linguistic heritage, they develop a stronger sense of self and cultural awareness,” he remarked.
Addressing concerns that linguistic promotion might undermine national cohesion, Bugti clarified that advancing mother languages does not conflict with national unity. Instead, he said, it reinforces the principle of unity in diversity and contributes to a more inclusive and harmonious society.
International Mother Language Day is observed annually on February 21 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity worldwide.
