CM approves Rs10b subsidy to ensure provision of affordable flour

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a Rs10 billion subsidy to ensure the provision of affordable flour to the people and decided to increase the quota of subsidized government wheat supplied to flour mills at Rs3,800 per maund amid a rise in flour prices.

Taking serious notice of the increase in flour prices, the chief minister convened a special emergency meeting through video link on Saturday and directed the authorities concerned to ensure the availability of flour and wheat at affordable rates under all circumstances.
The meeting agreed to provide a Rs10 billion subsidy to ensure the supply of affordable flour, while a decision was also taken to increase the quota of subsidised government wheat being provided to flour mills at Rs3,800 per maund.
CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed concern over the trend of an artificial increase in wheat and flour prices in the market and directed the relevant departments to utilise all available resources to ensure the uninterrupted supply of flour at affordable rates.
“The burden of inflation on the people of Punjab is extremely painful,” the CM said, stressing that every possible measure would be taken to provide relief to the public.
The CM said that the provision of affordable flour and low-cost roti would continue and directed the authorities to ensure effective implementation of the decisions to protect the public from the impact of rising prices.
