LAHORE, Jul 07 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expressed deep concern over the recent incident in Johar Town, Lahore, where a lion attack left a woman and several children injured.
Extending her heartfelt sympathies to the victims, the CM has announced financial assistance of Rs. 500,000 each for those affected by the tragic event.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said that CM Maryam Nawaz has issued clear instructions for decisive action against the illegal possession of wild animals, emphasizing that such reckless behavior will not be tolerated anywhere in the province. She directed authorities to take strict and indiscriminate legal action against those keeping wild animals without proper licenses.
Acting on the Chief Minister’s directives, the Punjab Wildlife Department has launched a province-wide crackdown. Raids have been carried out at 22 locations, including Lahore and Gujranwala, resulting in the recovery of 18 illegally kept lions. So far, five individuals have been arrested for keeping lions without valid permits, and further operations are ongoing.
The provincial government has also introduced a dedicated “Wildlife App” for the proper registration and regulation of wild animal ownership. Through this platform, 584 lions and tigers have already been registered across the province.
