DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Jul 17 (APP):A deadly clash between two rival armed groups in the Wanda Bairun area claimed six lives and left one person injured on Wednesday.
According to police, the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Shaheed Nawab Khan Police Station when members of the two groups confronted each other and opened fire. The exchange of gunfire resulted in the deaths of Naqeebullah son of Muhammad Nawaz, Shafiullah son of Masti Khan, Najeebullah son of Aman Ullah, Jalal son of Ahmad Gul, Naveed son of Fareed, and Jehanzaib son of Muhammad Nawaz while another person sustained serious injuries.
The police said the violence was linked to an extortion dispute. Prior to the shootout, one group had reportedly set fire to the rival group’s property, including a residential shelter and livestock, after they refused to pay extortion money.
The conflict escalated when both sides encountered each other again in the area, leading to the fatal gunfight.
Following the incident, a heavy police contingent reached the scene and shifted the bodies and injured to the Type-D Hospital in Paniala.
The police have launched a full investigation and increased security in the region to prevent further violence.
