MULTAN, Jul 21 (APP): In precautionary guidelines during ongoing monsoon season, rescuers urged residents not to walk or drive through flowing or stagnant water, and to prevent children from bathing in the rain, as it could lead to accidents.
This is the advisory released under special instructions of Punjab Emergency Services Secretary Dr. Rizwan Naseer and was shared by District Emergency Officer Dr. Hussain Mian here Monday.
Through the advisory, citizens are asked to stay alert to obstacles or potholes hidden beneath water on roads, drive vehicles slowly using low gears, and keep headlights and fog lights on at all times. Sudden braking and speeding must be avoided, it said.
Dr. Mian stated that although monsoon rains bring relief and pleasant weather, they also pose serious risks. He said Rescue 1122 teams are fully alert to deal with any emergency, but the cooperation and caution of the public remain the most important factors in ensuring safety.
As part of the advisory, citizens are alerted not to touch electric poles or wet wires, and to maintain distance from broken or exposed cables. Animals should also be kept away from these hazards. People are advised to avoid taking shelter under trees during thunder and lightning. The use of electrical appliances during rainfall should be done with extreme care.
The advisory also discourages going near riverbanks or seasonal streams during the monsoon, warning of strong water currents and flash flood risks. People should avoid sitting or standing near weak rooftops or walls, and not take shelter under trees, poles, or billboards during strong winds.
Dr. Hussain Mian reaffirmed that Rescue 1122 teams are fully prepared to handle emergencies, but public cooperation is crucial. “Only through our combined efforts can we create a safer society,” he said.
Citizens have been urged to immediately call the Rescue Helpline 1122 in case of any emergency.
