Citizens hail 10pc cut in house tax, reduced sanitation charges
RAWALPINDI, Sep 14 (APP):Citizens have welcomed the decision to reduce house tax by 10 percent and sanitation charges besides allowing payment of dues in three installments, terming it a much-needed relief for residents of the cantonment areas.
Talking to APP, a teacher from a local private school Irum said the reduction in house tax would provide relief to middle and lower middle class families. She appreciated the decision and said the installment facility would further ease the financial burden on residents.
A housewife, Zarnash, also welcomed the decision, saying that reduction in taxes and charges would help families manage their monthly budgets.
Under the agreed relief package, house tax would be reduced by 10 percent, while sanitation charges would also be decreased. Residents would also be allowed to pay their dues in three installments.
The former surcharges would also be waived, providing additional relief to residents, according to the agreement.
Citizens expressed hope that the decision would help address their concerns and make the payment of cantonment-related taxes and charges easier for the general public.
It is pertinent to mention here that the relief measures were announced following a press conference held on Sunday by member National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet Division, Malik Abrar Ahmed, who said that an agreement had been reached between public representatives and the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board administration regarding reduction in taxes and charges and other relief measures for residents.
