PESHAWAR, Feb 25 (APP): A citizen on Wednesday filed a petition in the Peshawar High Court against rising prices during the holy month of Ramazan.
In the petition, the National Food Security Division, Secretary Ministry of Food, Chief Secretary and Commissioner Peshawar have been made respondents.
The petitioner contended that prices of essential commodities have increased during Ramazan, making it difficult for the public to purchase basic food items.
The petition stated that the relevant authorities should be directed to immediately control prices of essential commodities, arguing that illegal price hikes are in violation of Article 3 of the Constitution, while negligence on the part of the administration has resulted in a continuous increase in inflation.
The petitioner further requested the court to seek a detailed report from the concerned authorities regarding measures taken so far to control inflation, and to direct the administration to regulate prices of flour, fruits, vegetables and other essential items in order to provide relief to the public.
