LAHORE, Jul 30 (APP):Chinese Consul General in Lahore Zhao Shiren, along with a delegation, called on Punjab Home Secretary Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi at his office on Wednesday and discussed matters relating to law and order as well as security arrangements for Chinese nationals residing and working in the province.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on enhancing coordination to ensure the safety and facilitation of Chinese citizens, particularly officials and workers engaged in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.
Dr. Ahmed Javed appreciated China’s continued support and cooperation and assured that the security of Chinese citizens remains a top priority for the Punjab government. He informed the delegation that the capacity of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) is being enhanced to provide dedicated security to Chinese nationals.
The home secretary stressed that private security guards deployed at Chinese installations must only be recruited through registered companies. He added that comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place in all industrial zones across Punjab.
He also emphasised strict implementation of the federal government’s guidelines regarding the movement of Chinese nationals and assured full cooperation from the department. “Our offices remain open and accessible for Chinese citizens and government representatives,” he stated.
Dr. Qazi further briefed the delegation on the government’s efforts to maintain law and order through technology-driven initiatives. He said that 14 modern check posts are under construction in border areas of Punjab to strengthen inter-provincial security.
The Chinese consul general congratulated Dr. Qazi on assuming the role of home secretary and conveyed his best wishes for the future.
Senior officials from the Intelligence Bureau, SPU, Special Branch and various sections of the Home Department also attended the meeting.
