Chilly weather engulfs Murree, Pindi

RAWALPINDI, Jan 04 (APP): The cold weather in northern Punjab is at its peak, particularly in the historic and beloved hill station Murree as for locals and the touring lot alike, the chilled air has invited hot coffee, spicy soups and the rejoicing winter outing.

In Rawalpindi, the temperature remained low during the weekend, compelling the majority to remain in duvets during present clear but continuous cloudy days. Evenings on the weekend remained cooled to as low as 10 celsius, very conducive for an evening travel to Murree with family or friends.

The PMD forecasts very cold and dry conditions in the hill station and surrounding Galiyat areas, where temperature is currently ranging between 0 °C to 2 °C during the sun, and nights with minimum temperatures dipping between -2C and 1C.
Dense fog is spreading at the plains of the province, the PMD warns of moderate to dense fog that is likely to form during early mornings and late evenings.

Looking further into the week, the MET department expects the continuation of cold weather trends.
Traveling via motorways and linking main arteries, the National Highways and Motorways Police (NH&MP) have also released travel advisory as dense fog always leads to roadside accidents.

A spokesman of NH&MP confirmed APP about continued vigilance and appropriate responses to the developing fog situation on motorways and highways. He said partially halt on commutes has been made for limited time on scattered areas, particularly at northern fronts of Punjab.

“However Pindi-Murree route is clear for travel with safty measures”, he said.
