PESHAWAR, Jul 07 (APP):Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahab Ali Shah here on Monday chaired the weekly governance review meeting.
The meeting was attended by administrative secretaries of various departments and other senior officials.
During the meeting, it was shared that daily reports regarding the ongoing crackdown against illegal encroachments are being submitted to the Chief Secretary’s office. The Chief Secretary reiterated that strict and indiscriminate action against encroachments will continue across the province.
Speaking at the meeting, Shahab Ali Shah emphasized that hotels and restaurants operating in tourist areas must obtain No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the Land Use and Building Control Authority. He added that a clear checklist will be introduced for NOC approvals and stressed the importance of making the process legally sound yet user-friendly for the public.
He further stated that the provincial government is working to modernize the building control regime, for which the Land Use and Building Control Authority has been made functional. The government is also collecting data on the issuance of NOCs to hotels and restaurants along riverbanks in tourist destinations, including details of the issuing officials.
A report presented by the Tourism Department highlighted progress in environmental protection and sanitation measures in tourist regions. According to the report, 254 out of 412 hotels and restaurants have improved their drainage and sewage systems. Operations for environmental protection are actively ongoing in areas under the Galiyat, Kumrat, Kaghan, Upper Swat, and Kalash Development Authorities.
The meeting also reviewed the prices of essential commodities over the past week.
