Case registered for illegal Urial’s hunting in Jand

ATTOCK, Dec 15 (APP):The authorities on Monday registered a case against individuals involved in the illegal hunting of a urial in  tehsil, Jand after a video of the incident surfaced on social media, prompting swift action by the Punjab Wildlife Department.
The officials sources said  the case was registered on the directives of Assistant Chief Wildlife Ranger, Attock, Shahzaib Khurshid after the footage was verified and found to depict unlawful hunting activity.
The urial, a wild sheep species, is a key part of the Attock–Kala Chitta National Park ecosystem, but its population has been declining due to habitat loss and poaching.
The Wildlife Department said strict enforcement measures had been initiated to curb illegal hunting and protect the species.
The department urged the public to report any instances of illegal hunting or related activities through the Wildlife Helpline 1107.
The authorities announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for verified information leading to action against offenders, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
The officials stressed that community cooperation was essential for safeguarding wildlife and preserving the region’s natural heritage.
