ASTORE ,Dec 11 (APP): Caretaker Chief Minister, Gilgit Baltistan Justice (R) Yar Muhammad said that the education sector, particularly the basic education system played a key role in shaping the bright future of any nation. He emphasized that special attention is required to improve the education system for a better future.

During a briefing by the Provincial Secretary of Education regarding the School Education Department here Thursday, the chief minister expressed concern over the poor performance of public schools, indicating that the sector has been somewhat neglected.

He noted that ending unnecessary political interference and focusing on the education sector could lead to significant improvements. Due to the poor quality of public schools, parents from low-income families are often forced to enroll their children in private schools with high fees, he stated.

Justice Yar Muhammad stressed the need to focus on enhancing the quality and system of public schools. He highlighted that the teaching profession is highly esteemed and that teachers serve as role models in society; however, the performance of public school teachers has been unsatisfactory. Field officers also share responsibility for the declining performance and standards in public schools, he added.

He said that health and education should always remain top priorities for the government, as providing quality education and healthcare is a fundamental governmental responsibility.

The caretaker chief minister added that it was necessary to move away from the traditional education system and develop a modern curriculum aligned with contemporary requirements, while also ensuring proper teacher training. An effective monitoring system must be established by the Education Department to evaluate teacher performance, he said.

He appreciated the federal government’s approval of four Daanish Schools in Gilgit-Baltistan, calling it an excellent initiative. The establishment of these schools, he said will provide students in the region with more opportunities to receive quality education.

Justice Yar Muhammad also stressed strict implementation of the teacher transfer and posting policy to ensure fairness for all teachers. He noted that poor planning had led to the construction of school buildings without adequate teaching staff. He emphasized that attention must be given to human resources rather than just infrastructure, to address teacher shortages and revive non-functional schools
