RAWALPINDI, Nov 26 (APP):All Cantonment Boards across Pakistan will go for fresh elections in March the next year to elect public reps for board members, Presidents and Vice Presidents.
This marks the completion of the long-awaited devolution process started under the Cantonments (Amendment) Act 2023.
Until fresh elections, all 37 Cantonment Boards will be run by a small two-member interim caretaker board, consisting of one civilian member and one serving armed forces officer.
The Military Lands & Cantonments Department has already started the process of forming these interim boards.
Station Commanders have been asked to send names of the officer and civilian members immediately.
The civilian member cannot contest the upcoming elections.
November 26 has been set for the interim set ups.
The Election Commission of Pakistan will announce the election schedule in the coming months.
