SANGHAR, Jun 28 (APP):Sindh Minister for Labour and Human Resources, Shahid Abdul Salam Thaheem, has announced that the provincial government was actively working to improve the condition of hospitals serving laborers across Sindh. A major initiative includes the up-gradation of the labor hospital in Sukkur and the establishment of a dedicated cancer hospital for labourers in Karachi.
Speaking to journalists during the inauguration of the newly renovated Social Security Dispensary in Tando Adam in Saturday, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to providing basic healthcare and rights to the working class. “Labourers are like our children. It is our duty to ensure they receive proper facilities and services,” he stated.
He revealed that encroachments on labour department-owned flats, plots, and quarters are being removed. In Tando Adam, the construction of 100 residential quarters for laborers will begin soon, with the housing units to be handed over to eligible workers upon completion.
Thaheem further disclosed that Rs. 4.5 million had been spent on the renovation of the dilapidated dispensary building in Tando Adam, which has now been transformed into a well-equipped medical facility. He added that repair work on the prominent “Valika Bai” hospital for laborers would also begin shortly.
The minister also shared plans to improve the performance of educational institutions operating under the Workers Welfare Board. These institutions aim to provide quality education and facilities to children of laborers.
He expressed concern over illegal occupation of labour flats in the SITE area of Hyderabad during the 2022 floods, stating that formal letters have been issued to the relevant commissioner and deputy commissioner to take immediate action to vacate the occupied premises.
Earlier, the minister formally inaugurated the dispensary and offered prayers for the welfare of the nation and the labour community. Pakistan People’s Party leaders including Sher Muhammad Dero, Rais Shakeel Ahmed Mari, Javed Shoro, and the Commissioner of SESSI were also present on the occasion.
