LAHORE, Sep 14 (APP):The 58th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order was held at the Punjab Home Department on Monday, with Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique in the chair and Provincial Minister Bilal Yasin as co-chairman.
Provincial Minister Sohaib Ahmed Bharth and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Rana Bilal Ahmed
attended the meeting as special invitees.
The committee reviewed the law and order situation across the province. Punjab Home Secretary Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi briefed the participants on the prevailing security situation. The committee also approved the release of five prisoners on parole.
Khawaja Salman Rafique said the provincial government, in line with the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, was taking all necessary measures to maintain law and order across Punjab. He said comprehensive security arrangements were being made for political and religious gatherings.
He warned that those endangering the lives and property of citizens, violating the law, attacking national institutions or attempting to create social unrest would be dealt with according to the law.
Bilal Yasin said no leniency would be shown to those attempting to disrupt law and order, adding that
protection of the lives, property and assets of citizens was the government’s foremost responsibility.
Rana Bilal Ahmed said all relevant institutions were maintaining coordinated security arrangements and using available resources to ensure peace across the province.
Home Secretary Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi said Section 144 had been imposed across Punjab from September 13 to 17. Under the restrictions, gatherings of five or more people at public places, processions and attempts to incite people to participate in such gatherings were prohibited. Carrying or displaying weapons at public places was also strictly banned.
Additional IG Muhammad Ali Nekokara, Special Secretary Home Faisal Farid, the Additional IG Special Branch, DIG CTD, Additional Secretary Internal Security, Additional Secretary Prisons and other senior officials attended the meeting.
Commissioners, deputy commissioners, RPOs and DPOs from across Punjab participated through video link and briefed the committee on the security situation in their respective areas.
