LAHORE, Jun 23 (APP):Cabinet Committee on Law and Order Tuesday visited the route of the central Muharram procession in Lahore to review security and administrative arrangements ahead of the month’s major events.
The committee inspected the central procession route, Nisar Haveli and Karbala Gamay Shah. Provincial Minister and Committee Chairman Khawaja Salman Rafique and Provincial Minister and Co-Chairman Bilal Yasin reviewed the arrangements on the occasion. Members of the Punjab Assembly Ms Mumtaz Begum and Sumbal Malik also accompanied the committee. Special Secretary Home Faisal Farid, commissioner Lahore, deputy commissioner Lahore and DIG Operations Lahore were present during the visit. Agha Muhammad Hussain Qizilbash and other organisers were also in attendance.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Salman Rafique said extraordinary security arrangements had been made across the province for Muharram. He said all relevant departments had been directed to maintain strong coordination to ensure peaceful observance of the religious events. He appreciated the role of religious scholars in promoting inter-sect harmony and said a large number of trained volunteers were performing duties alongside police personnel to assist in maintaining law and order.
Minister Bilal Yasin said exemplary arrangements had been made in Lahore, as in the rest of Punjab, for Muharram. He added that the Punjab government had made special arrangements for providing drinking water facilities along procession routes. He said religious leaders belonging to all schools of thought were playing a positive role in promoting the message of unity and harmony among Muslims.
The organisers and office-bearers of the processions thanked the Punjab government for its support and cooperation in ensuring smooth arrangements for Muharram.
