Breed improvement programme for cattle soon

SARGODHGA, Nov 16 (APP): The livestock department would soon launch a comprehensive flagship initiative of herd transformation in the district.
Talking to APP here on Sunday, Additional Director livestock Dr.Tanveer Ashraf Klyar said that his department was undertaking a comprehensive breed improvement programme for cattle and buffalo.
To achieve the objective, high-genetic-potential semen of exotic and indigenous breeds was being made available at all veterinary hospitals across Punjab and in Sargodha as well on a cost-to-cost basis and at subsidized rates, he added.
He said this pioneering initiative aims to develop specialized breeds for dairy and beef, with a focus on beef semen propagation coupled with feed-lot fattening through Livestock Card, thereby augmenting the meat sector.
Dr Tanveer Ashraf Klyar further said that in near future, as part of the CM’s initiative, the department would be taking the following innovative steps including provision of sex-sorted HF semen on a 70 percent subsidy in 10 selected districts including Sargodha, whereas, sex-sorted semen of indigenous breeds (Sahiwal, Cholistani, Dhani, and Nili Ravi) would be
available free of cost to PTP-registered animals:- Availability of Dajal semen in the districts of DG Khan, Rajanpur, and tribal areas to support local livestock farmers:- Adoption of IVF and genomics to further enhance breed improvement efforts he added.
He requested to circulate the enclosed advertisements on social media and display panaflexes at UC offices, DC/AC offices, Zila Council, and other areas where farmers were engaged, to publicize this initiative and encourage livestock farmers.
