ABBOTTABAD, Jun 30 (APP):Leading oncologists from across Pakistan Tuesday have emphasized the importance of adopting the latest evidence-based therapies and international clinical guidelines to improve breast cancer treatment outcomes during a scientific symposium hosted by the Medical Oncology Unit of the Medical Teaching Institution (MTI), Ayub Teaching Hospital Abbottabad.
The participants discussed recent advances in the management of HER2-positive and metastatic breast cancer, highlighting the role of innovative therapies, continued medical education and research in enhancing patient care.
Speaking on the occasion, Consultant Medical Oncologist Dr. Ibtisam Idris said the symposium aimed to update healthcare professionals on modern, evidence-based treatment approaches and familiarize them with the latest international guidelines to improve patient care.
Dr. Jamshed Ali of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital delivered a presentation on the role of neoadjuvant therapy in HER2-positive breast cancer patients before surgery. Professor Dr. Abid Jamil, Consultant Medical Oncologist and Chairman of the Board of Governors at MTI Ayub Teaching Hospital, discussed the latest international recommendations and best clinical practices for post-surgical management of breast cancer.
Dr. Tariq Marwat, Assistant Professor of Oncology at Khyber Teaching Hospital, presented modern treatment strategies for locally advanced HER2-positive breast cancer, while Professor Dr. Qasim Battar, Head of the Department of Medical Oncology at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad, highlighted newly available therapies and treatment options for patients with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer.
A panel discussion featuring Dr. Ashfaq Ahmad Shah of Khyber Teaching Hospital and Dr. Rahimullah Khattak of Hayatabad Medical Complex provided participants with an opportunity to discuss clinical challenges and receive expert guidance during an interactive question-and-answer session.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Professor Dr. Abid Jamil appreciated the efforts of Dr. Ibtisam Idris, the Medical Oncology Unit, and the administration of Ayub Medical College and Ayub Teaching Hospital for organizing the event.
He directed the relevant authorities to continue arranging similar scientific and professional development programmes to ensure that faculty members, doctors and postgraduate trainees remain abreast of the latest medical research and internationally accepted treatment protocols.
He said the promotion of high-quality medical education, research and the provision of advanced healthcare services remained among the institution’s top priorities, adding that such scientific forums play a vital role in enhancing the professional capacity of healthcare providers and improving patient care.
