LARKANA, Oct 28 (APP):Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) Larkana organized a one-day seminar on Breast Cancer Awareness at Chandka Medical College (CMC) Larkana on Tuesday, under the special directives of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nusrat Shah.
The seminar was jointly organized by the Departments of Surgery and Oncology. Professor Dr. Akleema Asad served as the Organizer, while Dr. Ayesha Nabeel performed the role of Secretary.
Addressing the event, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nusrat Shah emphasized that a positive mindset has the power to transform the world. She said, “Positivity exists everywhere—it depends on how we perceive and seek it.”
She further shared that SMBBMU observed the month of October as “Pinktober”, during which the university promoted breast cancer awareness through multiple activities. Faculty and staff incorporated pink into their dress code every Friday, awareness sessions were conducted in all affiliated institutions, and radio interviews were aired to spread the message. She added that as a medical university, creating health awareness is part of SMBBMU’s social and professional responsibility, and she congratulated the organizing team for arranging a highly successful event.
Principal CMC Professor Dr. Zamir Ahmed Soomro said that awareness programs are vital and suggested that every OPD where women visit should also provide educational counseling about breast cancer.
In her welcome address, Professor Dr. Akleema Asad highlighted the objectives and significance of the seminar. Dr. Aisha Nabeel presented the vote of thanks and delivered a multimedia presentation on breast cancer awareness. Dr. Mishal Jatoi, Dr. Musarrat, and Dr. Suhail Ahmed Soomro also gave informative presentations on breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Experts informed the audience that in Pakistan, approximately 90,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer last year, and due to delayed treatment, around 30,000 women lost their lives.
They added that not breastfeeding can be one of the causes of breast cancer, whereas the Holy Qur’an advises mothers to breastfeed their children for two years.
They also noted that lack of physical activity, walking, and stress are significant contributing factors.
A stage play titled “Maa Ko Marna Nah Chahiye” (A Mother Should Not Die), written by Media Coordinator Abdul Samad Bhatti, was performed by third-year students of Chandka Medical College, which received an overwhelming response from the audience.
The seminar was attended by large number of Deans, Professors Doctors and Students.
The event concluded with a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nusrat Shah, joined by all participants to express solidarity and commitment to women’s health awareness.
