LAHORE, Oct 04 (APP): The Punjab government has extended a province-wide ban on the use of wheat in poultry feed mills under Section 144, aiming to safeguard the supply of wheat, flour, and bread for human consumption.
According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, wheat may now only be used in flour mills for producing flour. The restriction on feed mills has been extended for another 30 days and will remain in effect until Sunday, November 2.
A Home Department spokesperson said the measure was taken due to concerns over a potential wheat shortage, noting that over 100,000 metric tons of wheat had been stockpiled by feed mills.
The Secretary of Price Control and Commodities Management reported that these mills were preparing to divert this wheat for poultry feed, prompting the ban’s extension. Authorities emphasized that wheat, a human staple, must be prioritized accordingly.
Public awareness campaigns about the directive will be conducted through gazette notifications, newspapers, and electronic media.
