QUETTA, Sep 04 (APP):Provincial Minister for Irrigation Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani on Thursday said that keeping in mind the possible flood situation in Sindh province, the Irrigation Department has been active since day one.
He said that on special directive of Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Khan Bugti, the divisional administration has also been active in shifting people to safe places so that timely and effective measures could be taken in the interest of the people.
He expressed these views while talking on the occasion of his visit to the Irrigation Department of Nasirabad Division.
Provincial Secretary Irrigation Saleh Muhammad Nasir, Chief Engineer Canals Nasir Majeed, Spring Engineer Ghulam Sarwar Bangulzai, Pakistan Peoples Party Nasirabad Division President Mir Bilal Sadiq Imrani and other concerned officials were present on the occasion.
The Minister said that complete details have been obtained from the Sindh Irrigation officials by visiting the Sukkur Barrage and according to them, the threat of flood situation has been averted at present. However, we had taken prior steps to deal with possible risks in the event of a super flood and all matters are still being closely monitored on a daily basis, he said.
Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani said that the entire team of the Irrigation Department has been present in Nasirabad Division for the last four days where a detailed review of the possible flood situation has been conducted in collaboration with the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners.
He said that our top priority is to protect the lives and property of the people, timely shift the urban population to safe places and save crops and livestock.
He said that it has been decided in mutual consultation and consensus with the Sindh government that both the provinces would take joint steps to prevent any possible cut or crack on the western bank of the Indus River so that there is no dependence on any one party.
He said that by the grace of Allah Almighty, the situation is now under control and the threat has reduced to a considerable extent, we have taken all the relevant departments on board so that immediate effective measures can be taken in any emergency.
Flood control rooms have been established, where machinery and staff are ready at all times, he said and added that the Balochistan government stands with the people and all possible resources would be utilized to keep the people safe from all kinds of dangers.
