QUETTA, Feb 11 (APP): The Balochistan government is preparing to launch a landmark health insurance policy for public sector employees, as Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti chaired a high-level review meeting to assess progress on the initiative and the rehabilitation of two major hospitals in the provincial capital.
The meeting focused on finalizing the insurance scheme for civil servants and reviewing restoration measures for Civil Hospital Quetta and Bolan Medical Complex Hospital. Attendees included Provincial Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Planning & Development Zahid Saleem, Finance Secretary Lal Jan Jaffar, Health Secretary Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Panezai, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Imran Zarkoon, and Secretary Communications & Works Babar Khan, along with other officials.
Health Secretary Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Panezai briefed participants on the implementation framework of the proposed policy.
Addressing the meeting, CM Bugti described the initiative as a major gift to government employees, recognizing their role in ensuring smooth public administration. He directed authorities to finalize arrangements for the formal launch on March 7, 2026.
Under the scheme, each government employee will be entitled to medical coverage of up to Rs1 million at leading hospitals across the country.
Sarfraz Bugti emphasized that the policy aims to reduce financial burdens and ensure timely access to healthcare for public servants.
In addition, the Chief Minister instructed the Health Department to accelerate rehabilitation efforts at Civil Hospital Quetta and Bolan Medical Complex, calling for a dedicated mechanism to oversee the restoration process. He underscored the importance of strengthening healthcare infrastructure to meet the province’s growing needs.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from provincial authorities to enhance healthcare access for government employees and modernize key medical institutions in Quetta.
