QUETTA, Oct 25 (APP):Chief Secretary Balochistan, Shakeel Qadir Khan, emphasized the growing severity of climate change and its devastating impact on human life and the economy, calling for proactive measures to mitigate natural disasters across the province.
Speaking at an event organized by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Chief Secretary outlined the government’s strategic vision to safeguard public welfare and build long-term resilience.
CS Shakeel Qadir Khan highlighted the development of a robust and integrated disaster management strategy aimed at minimizing the impact of floods, earthquakes, and droughts.
A province-wide framework is in place to address current and future disaster risks, forming a foundation for sustainable development.
Ensuring every citizen has access to safe environments and disaster protection facilities remains a top priority.
These initiatives are expected to foster public confidence and contribute to making Balochistan a safer, more stable region.
Underscoring the theme of this year’s observance, CS Shakeel Qadir Khan stressed the importance of preparedness over reactive response. He called for effective relief teams, organizing trained rescue and relief units for emergency response during floods, earthquakes, and droughts.

In a significant move, the Chief Secretary directed PDMA to prioritize long-term planning and policy development for disaster risk reduction. He also announced the expansion of 1122 Emergency Services.
The service will be established in every district, with future plans to extend coverage to tehsil-level areas, ensuring rapid response capabilities across Balochistan.
