ISLAMABAD, Feb 06 (APP):The Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) has sealed a bakery industrial unit in Sector I-10 following an inspection that uncovered serious violations of food safety and hygiene regulations.
Broken hatchery eggs were reportedly being used in production, while layers of carbon deposits were observed on walls, ceilings and baking trays, an authority official told APP on Friday.
Evidence also indicated peeling paint falling directly into food preparation areas.
The inspection team further noted the presence of fungus inside freezers, cigarette butts on the floor and a heavy infestation of flies, pointing to poor sanitation standards and inadequate pest control measures.
The official said bakery products lacked manufacturing and expiry dates, while essential documentation — including traceability records, integrated pest management (IPM) logs, cleaning records, laboratory analysis reports and staff medical screening documentation — was missing.
The unit was also operating without a valid Islamabad Food Authority licence.
In view of the serious violations and potential risks to public health, the IFA sealed the facility on the spot to prevent the supply of unsafe food.
Additionally, the licence of a stall operated by the same bakery at the H-9 weekly bazaar has been cancelled.
The food authority reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against substandard and unsafe food businesses, stating that inspections and legal action against violators will continue to safeguard public health.
Food business operators have been advised to strictly comply with food safety laws, hygiene standards and licensing requirements.
