SARGODHA, Nov 04 (APP):An awareness walk was organized at the DC Office in Sargodha in connection with Data Fest 2025, an initiative led by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The walk was led by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Muhammad Abu Bakr Rana and Chief Statistics Officer Dr. Mazhar Hussain.
The event saw strong participation from Divisional Coordinator Statistics Adnan Rashid, District Coordinator Muhammad Ashfaq, Statistical Officers from the Regional Office, civil society representatives, employees from various departments, media personnel, students, and local citizens. This walk was part of a series of activities taking place nationwide to raise awareness about the importance of data, the use of modern data technologies, and the promotion of evidence-based policymaking.
Speaking at the event, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Muhammad Abu Bakr Rana emphasized that accurate and timely data is crucial for effective development planning and decision-making. He highlighted that, in line with the “Digital Pakistan” vision, the Department of Statistics is transitioning census and data systems to an electronic platform using modern technologies. This transition aims to facilitate the timely and accurate decision-making needed for effective policymaking.
Chief Statistics Officer Dr. Mazhar Hussain took the opportunity to invite media, civil society, and the general public to join the upcoming Data Fest 2025, scheduled to be held in Islamabad on November 11 and 12. He stressed that “fact-based policy is the key to sustainable development.”
The participants of the walk carried banners and placards with slogans promoting the effective use of data, transparency, and development. At the conclusion of the event, the participants reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the correct use of data, ensuring transparent data access, and contributing to the vision of Digital Pakistan.
