Authorities directed to finalize drainage, emergency and health measures before monsoon

HYDERABAD, Jul 03 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Abedin Memon on Friday directed all relevant departments to complete their preparedness well in advance to effectively deal with expected monsoon rains and potential flooding.
He issued the directives while chairing a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) held at the New DC Complex. The meeting reviewed contingency plans and emphasized coordinated efforts among all departments to ensure an effective response during the 2026 monsoon season.
Addressing the participants, the deputy commissioner stressed the need for a comprehensive strategy and close coordination among all stakeholders. He instructed every department to immediately share its monsoon preparedness plan so that any gaps could be identified and addressed in a timely manner.
He directed officials of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA) and Taluka Municipal Offices (TMOs) to complete the cleaning of drains across the district before the onset of heavy rains to ensure smooth drainage of rainwater. He also called for special attention to low-lying areas and the formulation of an effective plan for the timely disposal of accumulated rainwater.
The deputy commissioner also directed Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) officials to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to pumping stations during rainfall, noting that the entire water supply and drainage system depends on the availability of power during the monsoon.
He further directed the health department, Rescue 1122 and other concerned agencies to complete all necessary arrangements in advance to respond effectively to any emergency arising from the expected rains.
Memon also instructed authorities to ensure anti-mosquito spraying at the taluka and union council levels throughout the monsoon season to help prevent the spread of malaria and dengue.
District Health Officer Hyderabad Pir Ghulam Muhammad Shah along with officers and representatives of all relevant departments attended the meeting.
