LAHORE, Oct 24 (APP):An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday approved a police request to cancel the case registered over the alleged attack on the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) office against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, her husband Captain (retd) Safdar Awan, Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah, and several other Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders.
ATC Judge Arshad Javed announced the reserved verdict, which had been pending after completion of proceedings a few days earlier. The court ruled that the charges could not be substantiated and ordered the case to be closed.
According to the police report submitted in court, no evidence was found to support allegations of stone-pelting at the NAB office by Maryam Nawaz or other PML-N leaders. Police officers who appeared as witnesses and investigators confirmed that the accusations remained unproven during the inquiry.
Deputy Prosecutor Abdul Jabbar Dogar had also requested the court to dismiss the case, citing insufficient evidence.
The case was originally registered in 2020 at Chuhng Police Station on the complaint of NAB Deputy Director Muhammad Asghar. The FIR named several PML-N figures, including Bilal Yasin, Parvez Rasheed, Daniyal Aziz, Khawaja Imran Nazir, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Colonel (R) Mubashir Javed, Yasmeen Sohail, and others.
The accused were alleged to have attacked and pelted stones at the NAB Lahore office during Maryam Nawaz’s appearance before the bureau in connection with an inquiry.
