MULTAN, Nov 11 (APP):The Punjab Arts Council Multan staged a mesmerizing Classical and Ghazal Night, celebrating Pakistan’s enduring tradition of classical music and poetry. The event attracted a large and diverse audience, further cementing the city’s growing role as a hub for cultural preservation and artistic expression.
Speaking as the chief guest, Assistant Advocate General Kanwar Sajid Ali emphasized the timeless relevance of classical music, describing it as “our cultural treasure.” He noted that classical music has produced legendary names whose timeless compositions continue to be admired around the world. He also stressed the importance of introducing this rich heritage to younger generations of artists.
Saleem Qaiser, Director of the Multan Arts Council, highlighted the unique beauty and emotional depth of classical music. He praised the dedication of passionate musicians who continue to keep the art form alive, stating that classical music enjoys universal appeal, with admirers found across the globe.
Renowned vocalist Ustad Ijaz Hussain Tawakkal described classical music as “an art form for refined and cultured ears,” likening it to “drawing silk from silk.” He commended the Arts Council for organizing the event, calling it “a commendable effort to honor Pakistan’s classical tradition.”
The evening featured soulful performances by Ustad Ijaz Hussain Tawakkal, his sons Ali Raza Tawakkal and Khayam Tawakkal, along with Ustad Nadeem Riaz Malik, Ustad Ghulam Abbas Firasat, and Shamim Ansari, who presented classical ragas and ghazals. A special highlight was the performance by acclaimed flutist Ustad Hanif Khan, whose renditions of classical melodies received resounding applause from the audience.
The event, which brought together people from various walks of life, was praised for beautifully celebrating Pakistan’s musical legacy. The Classical and Ghazal Night not only honored the masters of the past but also reaffirmed Multan’s position as a beacon of classical art and culture in South Asia.
