RAWALPINDI, Feb 23 (APP):City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi has deployed a 24-hour special anti-wheelie squad and set up additional checkpoints across major arteries to curb dangerous stunts, over speeding and underage driving during the holy month of Ramazan.
According to CTP spokesperson, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam said enhanced traffic wardens would remain in place throughout Ramazan to prevent road accidents.
Under the plan, special checking pickets have been established on key thoroughfares. Offenders involved in wheelies or racing will face strict legal action, while vehicles driven by minors will be impounded and lodged at police stations.
CTO warned that those involved in performing wheelies would be booked under relevant laws with first information reports (FIRs) registered against violators.
He added that mechanics who modify motorcycles for stunts are being monitored and would also face legal proceedings if found involved in such illegal activities.
“The menace of wheelies is a deadly game,” Aslam said, stressing that its eradication requires cooperation from citizens, particularly parents. He urged parents to discourage underage driving and refrain from handing vehicles to minors.
